Sister Authors Schyrlet Cameron and Kathy Brown
Schyrlet Cameron and Kathy Brown are sisters. Growing up in the Ozarks, they
spent much of their time on their grandparents’ farm, where their grandmother always
kept them entertained: tending the garden, feeding the chickens, milking the cows, and
listening to late-night tales. These memories are the inspiration for their writing.
Schyrlet Cameron has thirty-four years of experience as an elementary and
middle school teacher. She has authored or co-authored over seventy-five teacher
resource books. Schyrlet is currently an educational consultant and writer/editor. She
has presented workshops at the national, state, and local levels on a variety of
educational topics. Schyrlet holds a Master of Education Degree in Elementary
Education and has received recognition for her professionalism in teaching, including
the Missouri Science Teacher of the Year Award and the national Excellence in
Teaching Elementary Science Presidential Award.
Kathy Brown is the owner of Nature’s Little Friends Preschool and Day Care
Center in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She is a licensed daycare provider. She has worked in
childcare all her adult life. She provides pre-school activities and an early childhood
program for children ages 2-5. Kathy is known as “Grandma Brown” to the children in
her care.
The sisters have authored five captivating children’s picture books that invite
readers to explore real locations and heartwarming stories. Tales of Possum Hollow,
published in 2023, introduces southwest Missouri’s country charm. Anchor (2024)
shares the journey of a beloved dog at Mutton Creek Marina, Stockton Lake. In 2025,
Morris brings to life the Crescent Hotel's resident cat and Chicken Bristle Road, a
nostalgic look at farm life before modern conveniences. Their newest release, Red,
White, and Boom (April 2026), celebrates classic 4th of July festivities on the farm and
is perfectly timed for the USA's 250th birthday.
